The Library Electronic Text Resource Service (LETRS) public facility, which has hosted CD-ROM-based electronic text resources, was started in the early 1990s to provide support for humanities computing applications and electronic text resources. Today, more than 10 years later, fewer and fewer researchers rely on CD-ROMs and many titles formerly on CD-ROM are now available via the Web.

Effective July 1, 2005 the primary focus of LETRS, a service of the IU Digital Library Program, was changed to provide support and consultation services in the areas of humanities computing, electronic text development, and eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and related technologies.

Some CD-ROM titles formerly available only via LETRS workstations are now available via the Web. A small number of high-use CD-ROM titles are placed on networked workstations in the Wells Library Reference Department. The others will be moved to the stacks and be available for checkout.

To locate online resources formerly housed in LETRS, check both the IU Libraries online catalog, IUCAT and online databases in Find Information on the IUB Libraries website. If you need additional assistance, please visit or contact the Reference Department in the Wells Library.

If you are interested in partnering or consulting with the Digital Library Program on a digital humanities or e-text project, visit the Digital Library Program website for additional information about our e-text services.
